The 11 Ingredients — Decoded

🍵
Black Tea
East African highlands
Base · Energy · Antioxidants
The backbone of the blend. A full-bodied East African black tea carries the weight of 10 other ingredients without losing its character. Delivers caffeine with L-theanine for a warm, sustained energy.
🫚
Ginger
Asian root
Warming · Anti-inflammatory · Circulation
The first heat you feel. Ginger warms from the inside, supports circulation, and has well-documented anti-inflammatory properties. It opens the spice profile before any other ingredient speaks.
🌿
Cinnamon
Sri Lankan bark
Warming · Blood sugar balance · Sweetness
Sweet-spicy and instantly comforting. Cinnamon's warmth balances the bite of pepper and ginger. Traditionally associated with blood sugar regulation and digestive comfort.
🟢
Cardamom
South Asian seed pod
Digestive · Aromatic · Freshness
The most complex spice in the blend. Cardamom adds a eucalyptus-like freshness that cuts through the richness of milk-based lattes. A cornerstone of masala chai tradition.
🌶️
Black & White Pepper
Tropical peppercorn
Heat · Circulation · Bioavailability
A dual pepper combination — black for depth, white for a cleaner finish. Both activate circulation and enhance the bioavailability of other spice compounds. The slow heat that builds in the back of the throat.
🌸
Clove
Indonesian flower bud
Antiseptic · Numbing warmth · Depth
One of the most potent spices in the blend. Used in traditional medicine across Africa and Asia. Adds a deep, almost smoky warmth and a subtle numbing quality that makes the cup feel medicinal in the best possible sense.
🟤
Nutmeg
Tropical seed
Warming · Relaxing · Aromatic depth
A warming spice with a reputation for gentle calming properties at low doses. In chai, it adds an earthy, slightly sweet depth that rounds the sharper edges of pepper and clove.
🌺
Jasmine
Chinese floral tradition
Aroma · Calm · Floral lift
Jasmine brings the first floral note — delicate, high, and briefly sweet. Used in East Asian tea tradition for centuries, it adds a perfumed lightness that balances the weight of the spices.
🌹
Rose
Persian floral tradition
Floral depth · Antioxidant · Romance
Rose petals deepen the floral profile with a richer, slightly cooler note than jasmine. Rich in antioxidants, they have been used in Middle Eastern and Persian wellness traditions for centuries.
💜
Lavender
Mediterranean herb
Calming · Aromatic · Stress relief
The final floral note — and the quietest. Lavender's calming properties are well-established. In this chai, it appears at the finish, softening the heat of the spices into something that invites stillness.
🔥Warming spice complex

Ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, pepper, clove, nutmeg — six spices working together.

🌸Floral signature

Jasmine, rose, lavender — a three-layer floral finish unique to this blend.

🌙Evening character

Caffeinated, but the floral and warming notes make it deeply suited to evening ritual.

✦ Why This Chai Is Different

Most chais use 4 or 5 spices. Spiced Velvet Chai uses 10, plus a black tea base. The spice complexity is intentional — each spice operates at a different stage of the sip: ginger and cinnamon arrive first, cardamom and pepper build in the middle, clove and nutmeg linger in the finish. The three florals — jasmine, rose, lavender — lift the entire structure into something that feels ceremonial rather than simply hot.

How to Brew Spiced Velvet Chai

🌡️Temperature100°C

Full boil — spices need maximum heat to fully release.

⏱️Time5–6 min

Longer than standard black tea to extract spice depth.

🥛As a latte?Absolutely

Steep strong in 150 ml water, add 100 ml hot milk. Add honey.

⚠️ Contains caffeine. Some spices (clove, cinnamon, pepper) are not recommended in large quantities during pregnancy. Consult a healthcare professional if needed.
